New in collection an a WAL Mark 2, Custom Midi, 24-fret bass guitar. Handcrafted in the Electric Wood Co, at High Wycombe, Now considered a vintage classic amongst bass players. This is a hand-made, custom, bass numbered WAL crafted by Wal / Electric Wood in 1980s. The bass body and neck are a mixture of high quality materials. Woods used are Brazilian mahogy core, American walnut/Wenge facing and Indian rose fretboard. The backplate has a Serial number W-3261 engraved. According to the History of Wal Basses website, the bass has “pickups with a powerful active circuit offering volume, pickup pan and separate tone controls for each pickup. There are 2 active humbuckers, and an active single pickup, accentuating the hi-treble end on the sound spectrum. The volume includes a push/pull knob which activates the ‘pick-attack’ adding a narrow band of high frequencies to the overall tone, ideal for helping the bass cut through a muddy live mix. They also each have a push/pull switch which engages an active boost giving a more distinctively ‘active’ tone. The bass is quite heavy, and despite the longer neck, but balances well.
