There are a few Gibson L-5s, in my collection, mostly beautiful sunburst or tobacco sunburst finished. However, the plain figure maple version is one of the most stunning Gibson solid bodied guitars. In previous post I mentioned the L-5s is basically a solid body version of the Gibson L5 semiacoustic Guitar. Fairly flat pancake body, slightly arched maple top and bottom with ebony fingerboard. Apart from the double sided binding and the Ebony fretboard with real abalone, it’s not dissimilar to the Gibson L6-s. The cavity backplate is made out of the same wood. Originally designed as a jazz/fusion guitar and kitted out with low impedance pick ups, laterally it came with standard humbuckers. This guitar has had some modifications done, although all the original elements are kept. Like the other L-5s, this one packs a big punch. Guitar lives in its Case.

Here another unusual Gibson L5-s, essentially a solid body version of the Gibson L5 semiacoustic Guitar hence the -s suffix. Doubly bound, flattish body, kinda Les Paulish, slightly arched maple top with ebony. Similar to the L6-s, apart from the double sided binding and the Ebony fretboard with real abalone. The guitar is a masterpiece in Luthiery, as even the cavity backplate is made out of the matching wood. Originally designed as jazz/fusion guitar and kitted out with low impedance pick ups, as ell as a trapezoid tail piece, laterally it came with standard hum-buckers, and the tail piece was replaced with a fine tuning stop tail. The dimensions are similar to the Gibson Les Paul Recording. As this is a 1978 Model, the hard case is the plastic moulded chainsaw case.

Here an unusual guitar, the Gibson L5-s, basically a solid body version of the Gibson L5 semiacoustic Guitar. Flattish boy, slightly arched maple top with ebony. Fairly flat guitar, and apart from the double sided binding and the Ebony fretboard with real abalone, it’s quite similar to the Gibson L6-s, only less flat. Originally designed as jazz/fusion and kitted out with low impedance pick ups, laterally with standard humbuckers. This guitar packs a real punch and is cool to look at also. Guitar lives in its original Gibson Case.
