Fender Stratocaster (Faded Cream White, 1977)

New to collection. Here we have a 1977 Fender Stratocaster electric Guitar in faded cream white. Great looking Strat with killer appearance and a very versatile instrument and a joy to play. Chrome hardware which is slightly tarnished due to the use over the years, giving the guitar an attractive patina. Defo one of the best vintage strats kicking around. Very responsive guitar and easy to play. Lovely cream aged coloured finish. Good condition, no major marks or dents. Lives in  Fender hard-case

Fender Stratocaster “Big Apple” Shoreline finish (2001, Pearlesque)

Posted in: Fender Stratocaster. Tagged: Fender Stratocaster Shoreline. Leave a comment

A 2001 Fender Shoreline Stratocaster with twin humbuckers and Pearly Gates pickups is among my finer guitars. It boasts high-output Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pups, all original and factory-installed. Definitely one of the top dual Humbucker Stratocasters available. It’s a highly responsive and effortless guitar to play. The finish is a beautiful sand-coloured silver/gold metallic. It’s in great condition with no marks or dents and resides in its Fender hard case..

Gibson Marauder (1975, Tobacco Sunburst)

Of all Gibson Marauders, the Tobacco Sunburst version of the Marauder was produced in very small numbers, word on the street is that this finish was rare, so that even less than 100 were made. Generally the Marauder was outshone by the Les Paul Models, mostly due to the lesser popularity of the bolted versus the set neck The Marauder was launched in 1974 and remained in production until 1979; being replaced by the Gibson Sonex series around 1980. This Gibson type guitar was initially produced at the Kalamazoo plant, but gradually production was transferred to the newer Nashville plant. The Marauder, along with the Gibson Grabber Bass were Gibson’s mid-seventies budget guitar models; still a Gibson, and not cheap, but certainly not their lowest price electric; though there was a more up-market version, the Marauder Custom,

The body and neck are made from poplar wood and hard maple and the instrument is finished in tobacco nitro lacquer. There 3 tone settings on the Marauder’s selector switch via a 3-position toggle switch. The pick ups are Bill Lawrence design with the front pickup is similar to the Super Humbucker with small additional magnets reinforcing and directing the field, while the bridge pickup has a single, iron-cored coil, with a magnet below and iron strips from the lower magnet pole. The fast, easy-action neck is made from Canadian maple. The fingerboard is made from rosewood.

Yamaha SG-70 (1974, Translucent, Black)

Posted in: Yamaha SG-70. Tagged: Yamaha SG-70. Leave a comment

This Yamaha SG-70 made in Japan in 1974 in a matte black finish is a midrange SG from the 1974-1976 line up. Prior to the now famous Yamaha SG-2000, Yamaha Music Corporation produced a series of early Yamaha SG double cutaway models. These were the flat bodied Yamaha SG-30, 35, 50 and 70. In 1974 the a carved top SG-90 and SG-175 were released. The SG-70 has great playability through the slim and fast neck.  Built from a solid mahogany body and neck, rosewood fret board with mother of pearl dot position markers and embossed serial number, Chrome Hardware and Tuning pegs. The sound comes from 2 Yamaha Humbucker style pick ups. The guitar has aged nicely with its binding nicely faded to a clotted cream colour. Yamaha SG-70 guitars were made from 1974 till 1975 in translucent Black, and Red and Natural Wood.

Yamaha SG-175 (1975, Natural)

Posted by Elite Vintage Guitars - Gearpage on 02/12/2017
Posted in: Yamaha SG-175. Tagged: Yamaha SG-175. Leave a comment

Another flagship guitar of my collection, the holy grail of Yamaha SG guitars, we have here the Yamaha SG-175, the top of the range SG that hit the music scene in 1974. This Yamaha SG-175 initially caught the eye of Carlos Santana who tried and tested the Yamaha SG-175 out. Although he thought it a great guitar, he deemed the SG-175  too light, and hence lacked the sustain he was looking for. Yamaha Music Co used his input in design and functionality to develop the now famous Yamaha SG-2000, probably the earliest famous Yamaha electric guitar. The changes to the SG-175 design meant a evolution to a heavier and contoured solid body electric guitar, the Yamaha SG-2000. For weight and resonance transfer, a brass block was added under the bridge and the guitar was made with a thru body neck

Copies of some of the  original hybrids of SG-175/2000 can be seen on his Santana’s live renditions of “She’s not there”, “Europa”, “Black magic woman” and more recordings from the album “Moonflower”. The Yamaha SG-175 was produced in only small numbers, as only the best of the best of materials were used and is now a very sought after instrument amongst Yamaha SG aficionados.

It is a brilliantly  high-quality guitar built with a Honduran Mahogany body, bound with ornate abalone binding, the set neck is made from one-piece bound mahogany with ebony fret-board, again with decorative mother of pearl split-wing markers. The headstock is quite plain with triple binding surrounding the wood, there is no decorative floral motif inlay as common with the later SG-2000 and SG-1000, just the Yamaha Logo.

Yamaha SG-2000s (Tobacco Sunburst, 1984)

Posted by Elite Vintage Guitars - Gearpage on 23/11/2017
Posted in: Yamaha SG-2000s. Tagged: Yamaha SG-2000s. 1 Comment

Here a Yamaha SG-2000s, a stunning Yamaha SG-2000s in translucent tobacco sunburst, it came in excellent condition. This is the -s variant denoted Yamaha SG-2000s due to the slimmer and more tapered neck and the different electrics, i.e. Coil Taps for the tone pots. The Standard SG-2000, when it was launched in 1976, came without that and only got kitted out with C/T after 1981.
The guitar is quite heavy, with a thru body neck that shows up nicely in the dark brown, brass sustain plate under the bridge and an ebony fret-board with abalone split wing fret markers. The guitar comes with original case. Weight of guitar approx. 4.4 Kgs, neck width at nut approx. 4.3 cm.

This WAL bass began as a fretless Geddy Lee model, commissioned in all-black with gold hardware by Jürgen Dehmel from the music stream “Die Neue Deutsche Welle,” or Germany’s New Wave. Nena, the band known worldwide for “99 Luftballons” or “99 Air Balloons,” originally owned it. The serial number W2053 is listed in the WAL database as being crafted in 1983 for Nena. Consequently, the bass featured on recordings and live performances from 1983 to 1986 with Nena.

Fender Telecaster (Tobacco Sunburst, 1972)

Here a Fender Telecaster in Tobacco Sunburst made in USA 1972. Great 70s vintage, with all the trimmings and a factory fitted Fender stamped Bigsby on it. The guitar is in virtually mint condition Great looker and a killer player, as you would expect from a classic Telecaster guitar. Collectible machine and great players gear with ounces of mojo and a great vintage feel to it. You can find Tele’s in many colours, however, the tobacco sunburst colour with Fender Bigsby a rare one, with some minor wear marks on the pick-guard from actual playing.

Yamaha SG-2000 (Deep Purple, 1981)

Posted in: Yamaha SG-2000. Tagged: Yamaha SG-2000. Leave a comment

Here a rarity, a Yamaha SG-2000  in glossy deep purple finish, near mint condition. Of all the Yamaha SGs, this is no doubt one of the most unusual versions of the desirable Yamaha SG-2000 that was developed way back in the 1970’s; the guitar plays like a dream, light and fluid, with very low action. The purple stands out and lights up under certain lighting conditions giving it a pure glow. Like most SG guitars by Yamaha, this guitar is heavy, with a thru body neck, brass sustain plate under the bridge and an ebony fret-board. It is a very pretty guitar. This model is fitted with coil taps as that give it a massive tonal range.

Yamaha SG-70 (1973, Wine Red)

Posted in: Yamaha SG-70. Tagged: Yamaha SG-70. Leave a comment

Real vintage Yamaha in my collection a 1973, pre Santana Yamaha SG. Prior to the famous Yamaha SG-175 and Yamaha SG-2000, Yamaha Music Corporation produced a series of early Yamaha SG double cutaway prototypes. These were the Yamaha SG-30, 35, 50, 70. In 1974 the phenomenal and relatively successful SG-90 and SG-175 were released. Like these later models, the SG-70 is a light weight near top of the range, early SG with a phenomenal playability due to the slim neck, and very versatile sound.

This is a great electric guitar with a good solid feel, playing light and fluid and certainly has lots of mojo and a definite vintage vibe. This  guitar has a solid mahogany body with a mahogany set neck, rosewood fret board with mother of pearl dot position markers and fingerboard embossed serial number near the 20th fret.  Chrome Hardware and Tuning pegs. The sound comes from Yamaha’s own high output humbucker pickups. The guitar looks pretty with its binding nicely aged to a clotted cream colour. Yamaha SG-70 guitars were made from 1973 till 1974 in translucent Black, Natural Wood and Red

Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom (1991/2, Honey, Made for JP)

Posted by Elite Vintage Guitars - Gearpage on 17/08/2017
Posted in: Gibson Les Paul Classic. Tagged: Gibson Les Paul Classic. 1 Comment

This Gibson Les Paul Custom Classic with a fine Maple top is a bit of a classic, and indeed it is. It is one of the nicer guitars about and was made for Jimmy Page as part of a batch of 4-5 in the early 90’s for touring with Page and Plant, The guitar ended up being damaged at the jack socket and was sent for repair by the roadie, who can’t recall having it returned by the guitar tech. Word is he kept it and sold it to a collector whose Les Paul collection including this one featured in August 2009 Guitar and Bass issue (See photo’s). Therefore we have here a gorgeous 1990 Gibson Les Paul Classic with 1960 spec featuring that desirable thin neck of the 1960 era with a bit of rock mojo. This guitar an old school design of timeless beauty with its understated classy top. The instrument has a fantastic feel and killer look to it, sound wise it is awesome too as it is wired with a push-pull Wah-Wah on the bridge pick up tone pot, creating that classic “Dazed and Confused” and “No Quarter” distorted Wah sound..
The guitar sounds absolutely stunning with powerful vintage open 1960’s hum-buckers. Some more retro features are the double ringed original 1960’s tuners and a superbly polished fine-grained rosewood finger board. Therefore, this guitar has an amazing feel and is quick to get to grips with. Well taken care of and is in great condition!

Yamaha SF-700 (1979, Red)

Posted by Elite Vintage Guitars - Gearpage on 16/08/2017
Posted in: Yamaha SF-700. Tagged: Yamaha SF-700. Leave a comment

The SF-700 is a notable example from the mid-range of Yamaha’s Super Flighter 1st series, produced in Japan between 1978 and 1979. It features a body made from a blend of Alder and Maple woods and boasts a twin octave, 24-fret set neck with a rosewood fretboard. Equipped with two Yamaha F-II Humbucker pickups, it offers independent volume and tone controls in a 2vol/2tone configuration. Unlike the SF-1000, the SF-700 lacks a coil-tap option, which is operated by a separate push-push button. The guitar is fitted with chrome hardware and tuners. The rosewood fretboard is adorned with mother of pearl markers. This guitar has a weight of approximately 3.7 Kgs and is housed in its faux leather soft case.
