Here a cool Gibson L6-S (Custom), finished in satin wood. This model features a larger but flatter body reminiscent of the Les Paul shape. This model was conceived in 1972 from a collaboration between Bill Lawrence and Gibson and launched in 1973. The guitar has interesting electrics as it aimed to deliver a “multi-sound system”. The sound and tone from Bill Lawrence designed Super Humbuckers is managed via a 6-way pickup selector that works as follows: Position #1: Both pickups in series and in phase. Position #2: Front pickup only. Position #3: Both pickups in parallel and in phase. Position #4: Both pickups in parallel and out of phase. Position #5: Rear pickup only. Position #6: Both pickups in series and out of phase. The L6-S series, including the Custom, Deluxe (strung through), and Midnight Special (strung through), saw a few years of production before being gradually discontinued. However, the L6-S Custom remained listed in 1980 and continued production in the Nashville plant. Today, the L6-S is often regarded as one of Gibson’s most underrated solid body guitars. Esteemed musicians such as Al Di Meola and Carlos Santana, along with Pat Martino, John McLaughlin, Keith Richards, Paul Stanley, Mike Oldfield, and Dave Davies, have been known to use it. The guitar features a solid body with a “harmonica” or “Nashville” bridge, and a 24-fret neck for easy access to higher notes.
