Gibson Nancy Wilson Nighthawk (2013, Sunburst)

Here a modern unusual guitar the Nancy Wilson Nighthawk Standard, loosely based on Gibson’s Les Paul model but with a deeper single cutaway and a longer scale length of 25inch. Its top is figured maple, and back is mahogany. The guitar has a bound fingerboard of solid rosewood, with parallelogram position markers. The nut is Corian. The Nighthawk Standard is quite a versatile guitar with a Mini-Humbucker in the neck position, able to make a bit of growl, the Hum-bucker in the bridge position can do some serious crunch also, as well as clear tones. All this is run by a five-way selector switch to select either full humbuckers or single-coil sounds, and a range of mix tones too. The guitar is quite light and still resonant and sustains surprisingly well no doubt helped by through-body stringing and heavy bridge. Great guitar.

Yamaha SG-2000 (Flame Tobacco Sunburst, 1998)

Posted by Elite Vintage Guitars - Gearpage on 22/02/2019
Posted in: Yamaha SG-2000. Tagged: Yamaha SG-2000. Leave a comment

Here in great condition, a Yamaha SG-2000 limited issue in glossy vintage flame top Tobacco Sunburst, a great looking Yamaha SG. Like all other SG-2000 models, these have their origins in the SG-175, after involvement of Carlos Santana. The SG-2000 would go on to become one of the heaviest guitars around due to the choice of woods and tone woods and application of a brass block under the bridge. This is a very pretty guitar, and despite the weight, the guitar plays like a dream. This model has coil taps, giving it great tonal range.

Yamaha SG-1600 (1985, Wine-burst)

Posted by Elite Vintage Guitars - Gearpage on 04/02/2019
Posted in: Yamaha SG-1600. Tagged: Yamaha SG-1600. Leave a comment

Here another example of the rare Yamaha SG-1600 in translucent wine burst finish, in near good overall condition. The only flaw is some aesthetic clouding of the finish which is a reaction of the paint with the moisture in the wood, a process which is accelerated with UV light such as string sunlight and very common to the 1980s SG range.  The SG-1600 is an upgrade from the SG-1000 and early SG-1500 model and built from maple and mahogany with a mahogany set neck. The fretboard is bound rosewood with mother of pearl/abalone split wing style inlays. Typical weight of these models was around the 4.2 kgs. The sound of these vintage gems is outstanding, produced by a straight 2 tone/2 vol arrangement with a coil tapping option and a 3-way pick up selector switch. Hardware was gold plated with a gold stop bar. The sound of this model is full, produced from 2 Spinex covered humbuckers, which have a strong presence, ideal for rock and rhythm.  Guitar is all original and lives in its original lined hard case. Weight is about 4.5 Kgs

Gibson L5-s (1977, Bourbon Sunburst)

Posted by Elite Vintage Guitars - Gearpage on 03/02/2019
Posted in: Gibson L5-s. Tagged: Gibson L5-s. Leave a comment

Here one of my nicest Gibson L-5s Guitars. The L-5s is as far as I know a Bill Lawrence co-designed solid body version of the Gibson L5 semiacoustic Guitar. Flattish body, kinda Les Paulish, slightly arched maple top with ebony. Fairly flat guitar, and apart from the double sided binding and the Ebony fretboard with real abalone, it’s quite similar to the Gibson L6-s, but less flat and contoured. Even the cavity backplate is made out of the wood. Originally designed as jazz/fusion guitar and kitted out with low impedance pick ups, laterally it came with standard humbuckers. This guitar packs a punch and is cool to look at also. Guitar lives in its In it’s Case. The outer dimensions are similar to the Gibson Les Paul Recording.

Gibson L5-s (Tobacco Sunburst, 1978)

Posted by Elite Vintage Guitars - Gearpage on 04/01/2019
Posted in: Gibson L5-s. Tagged: Gibson L-5s. 1 Comment

Here another unusual Gibson L5-s, essentially a solid body version of the Gibson L5 semiacoustic Guitar hence the -s suffix. Doubly bound, flattish body, kinda Les Paulish, slightly arched maple top with ebony. Similar to the L6-s, apart from the double sided binding and the Ebony fretboard with real abalone. The guitar is a masterpiece in Luthiery, as even the cavity backplate is made out of the matching wood. Originally designed as jazz/fusion guitar and kitted out with low impedance pick ups, as ell as a trapezoid tail piece, laterally it came with standard hum-buckers, and the tail piece was replaced with a fine tuning stop tail. The dimensions are similar to the Gibson Les Paul Recording. As this is a 1978 Model, the hard case is the plastic moulded chainsaw case.

Gibson S-1 (1975, Natural Wood)

Here we have another example of a Bill Lawrence inspired guitar, the 1975 Gibson S-1, Unlike the Les Paul models, the S-1, like the sister model the Gibson marauder was produced in relatively small numbers, mostly due to the lesser popularity versus the set neck Les Paul models. The S-1 was launched in 1975/6 and remained in production until 1980; being replaced by the composite material Gibson Sonex series around 1980. This Gibson type guitar was initially produced at Kalamazoo, but gradually production was transferred to the Nashville factory. The S-1, along with the Marauder and the Gibson Grabber Bass were Gibson’s mid-seventies budget guitar models; still a Gibson, and not cheap, but certainly not their lowest price electric. The guitar sports a body shape rather like a Les Paul, but has a bolt-on neck, similar to the Gibson Marauder. The body and neck are made from poplar wood. The electrics are quite intriguing. There are phased tone settings via the Chicken-head  selector switch allowing for 4-pre set configurations. The main bass/treble is controlled with a two-way selector switch on the bottom horn of the body. The pick ups are the 3 Bill Lawrence design single coil pickups.  The neck is made from Canadian maple and shows some signs of near 40-year use as is the fingerboard, made from rosewood with dot inlays and the distinctive peghead headstock is of “Flying V-series” design.

Fender Stratocaster (1979, Cream White)

Here an aged cream white Fender Stratocaster hardtail. electric guitar. Great 1979 vintage guitar; heavy as hell. The cream has yellowed smoothly and the result is stunning. The guitar plays well, all the hardware operates as it should, the electrics work flawlessly. Here we have a guitar with minimal play wear and patina. You won’t find many like this in such a great nick. Great looker and a killer player, as you would expect from a classic fender guitar. The wood on the neck has also beautifully aged to a rich colour resulting in a dark satin finish So here we have a very playable and functional guitar with ounces of mojo and a great vintage feel to it.
